In April 1985, after a brief experience at a major knitwear factory, founders Denis Munaro and Renata Longo established the sole proprietorship “The Knitting Workshop Munaro Denis,” specializing immediately in third-party knitwear production.
At the outset, the workshop used mechanical Omega-brand machines, known for their high and low heel mechanisms and peg-based manual programming. The machines only allowed fixed-stroke operations, limiting production possibilities.
Omega machines evolved to include 24 selection needles, allowing the creation of simple jacquard fabrics.
Programming transitioned to a pegboard system using punched cards that rotated within the machine to give commands.
The workshop adopted electronic machinery from Protti (PDE5N/P90), replacing the mechanical equipment.
Programming could now be done directly on the machine, enabling complex knitting techniques such as shaping and dropped stitches without requiring a comb.
A significant turning point came when the Protti machines were replaced with Stoll-brand electronic knitting machines, which are still in use today.
These new machines included combs to handle lowered fabric sections, improving flexibility and precision.
RDE continued modernizing its machinery with cutting-edge Stoll equipment, including the ADF series with 32 thread guides.
That same year, Edoardo Munaro, son of the founders, joined the company after completing advanced training courses in knitting software programming to support the company’s ongoing growth.
The business transitioned into a general partnership under the name RDE Knitting Developers SRL.
